The Lima Historical Society, formally organized in 1972, is made up of a diverse group of individuals of various ages, backgrounds, and interests. The common denominator is the desire to preserve and pass on the memory of Lima\u2019s history, and to help protect the small-town historic character of the town.<\/p>\n
What We Do<\/h1>\n
The Historical Society operates the Tennie Burton Museum located at 1850 Rochester Street in Lima. The museum is open on Sundays, June thru September, from 2:00 to 4:00pm or by special appointment.\u00a0A large collection of records, photos, books, and objects relating to the town\u2019s history are stored and cared for by a dedicated group of volunteers. The museum houses permanent and rotating exhibits. You may make special arrangements for research of our historic families, organization and building files, as well as tours throughout the year. To make special arrangement Click Here To Contact Us<\/a>.<\/p>\n Members of the society also consult with and provide information to the Lima Historian, the Lima Historic Preservation Commission, and the Lima Planning Board as requested. In addition, they offer assistance to the members of the public doing genealogical and other types of research and they provide occasional museum internships for qualified high school and college students.<\/p>\n Funding for the society\u2019s operations, particularly those associated with maintaining our historic Tennie Burton Museum, is provided by membership dues, donations, memorials, organizational fundraisers, and annual support from the Town of Lima, for which we are most grateful.<\/p>\n Our organization can only exist if we have the funds to support the Tennie Burton Museum.
